The meeting, which will be held from 23 to 25 April 2020 in Granada, will also feature three other exceptional writers: the Lebanese Joumana Haddad, the Algerian Yasmina Khadra and the French-Algerian Alice Zeniter.
The Fundación Tres Culturas presented today, at the Granada City Hall, a preview of the 'Tres Festival, voces del Mediterráneo', whose next edition will take place from 23 to 25 April 2020 (both inclusive) at the Centro Federico García Lorca.
As in the two previous editions (in 2016 and 2018), this meeting will once again bring together some of the most important names on the current Mediterranean scene, such as Leila Slimani (winner of the 2016 Goncourt Prize with Sweet song) and David Grossman, the most important author in Israeli literature. Also confirmed are the presence of the Lebanese writer and journalist Joumana Haddad, the Algerian crime writer Yasmina Khadra and the French-Algerian Alice Zeniter, the real revelation of this season with The art of losingwith which he won the Spanish Goncourt.
These writers complete the quintet of honour in this preview of the programme which, as in its predecessor editions, will feature some twenty Mediterranean voices in this meeting whose nature transcends the purely literary sphere to reflect on and debate current issues. Hence, each year, the Tres Festival revolves around a common theme. The one chosen for this occasion is 'Against totalitarianisms', so that the various round tables of authors will serve to address, through literature, the great challenges of the times in which we live.
This is one of the hallmarks of the Tres Festival, its social commitment, although it is not the only one. Other key features of this event include its commitment to diversity in all senses, from the topics covered (not only literary production is addressed, but also aspects such as translation and publishing) to the genres (there is room for all genres in this event, including those considered minor from a commercial point of view, such as poetry and comics) and the protagonists (among the selected authors there are established writers, but also new talents who reach the general public thanks to this event).
In addition, as has become traditional, the literary event itself will be accompanied by other cultural activities, such as film screenings and a concert.
This presentation took place at the Granada City Hall with the intervention of the Mayor of the city, Luis Salvador; the director of the Fundación Tres Culturas, José Manuel Cervera; the director of the Centro Federico García Lorca, Sara Navarro; and the Spanish-Moroccan writer Najat El Hachmi, who was in charge of presenting this preview of the programme. El Hachmi, who was already present at the first Tres Festival, is the author of the trilogy The last patriarch, Mother of milk and honey y The foreign daughter, as well as having been awarded the Ramón Llull prize.
