Kafka's last story

Sagi Bornstein. Israel, 2011, 56 min.

After his death from tuberculosis at the age of 41, Franz Kafka wrote in his will to his closest friend, Max Brod: "Dear Max, my last request: everything I leave behind me ... to be burned unread ... Yours, Franz Kafka".

Ten years later, Brod took the last train out of Prague to escape the Nazis and emigrated to Israel. From his new home in Tel Aviv he edited and distributed his friend's writings, transforming him from a writer into a cultural phenomenon. But the fate of Kafka's priceless writings later rested in the hands of two unstable women who kept the archives in poor condition in a dilapidated Tel Aviv flat.
