The Alcazar in Seville and the Alhambra in Granada are two monuments that share many characteristics, both in their origins and function and in their architectural and spatial configuration. Conceived as centres of power, but also as luxurious residential complexes, their similarities were maintained even when, at different historical moments, they changed their inhabitants and their cultural environment. Thus, the most outstanding constructions of both complexes were built almost simultaneously under Christian rule in one case and Muslim rule in the other, although with a common architectural spirit and tradition.

The conference, given by Professor Antonio Almagro Gorbea, a researcher at the School of Arab Studies in Granada, part of the CSIC, will analyse their architecture in order to understand the similarities and differences between the two palace complexes.
