On the occasion of the celebration of Women's Day on 8 March, the Fundación Tres Culturas offers Monday 7 March at 20.30 h. a recital of music by the great tur artistca Nihan Atalay, accompanied by Alejandro Marías.
Nihan Atalay
His excellent academic training is backed up by the number of prizes and awards he has received throughout his years of study.
He currently teaches flute at the Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul and collaborates with numerous orchestras, both in Turkey and in Europe. His skills allow him to tackle different repertoires: from contemporary music to baroque, he has played under the direction of Pierre Boulez, but also alongside prestigious names on the early music scene such as Florence Malgoire, Jonathan Rubin or Francis Biggi.
A pioneer in the use of historical instruments in her country, in parallel to her performing career she is dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of early music, with a special interest in the points of contact and mutual influences between European and Turkish music.
Alejandro Marías
He is professor of cello at the Seville Conservatory of Music, artistic director of the baroque ensemble La Spagna, member of the Francisco de Goya Quartet and collaborator with groups such as Zarabanda, Forma Antiqva and Accademia del Piacere. He has performed in some twenty countries with various chamber ensembles; as a soloist, he often gives recitals and concerts, and his interpretations of the viola da gamba solos from Bach's Passions have been particularly acclaimed.
He has worked in orchestras with conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Marc Minkowski, Ton Koopman, Bruno Weil, Sigiswald Kuijken, Hervé Niquet and Enrico Onofri.
In 2019 Brilliant Classics released his recording of Jacques Morel's complete works for viola da gamba, which no one had recorded until that year. This work has been unanimously praised by international critics, who have gone so far as to say: "The interpretation is frankly superb, to the point that many, in a blind tasting, would be reminded of the Jordi Savall of the glorious times" (Ritmo).
