The Fundación Tres Culturas, in collaboration with the publishing house La Línea del Horizonte, is organising the presentation of the book South of Tangier. A journey through the cultures of Moroccoby professor, Arabist and translator Gonzalo Fernández Parrilla.

The event will take place on Wednesday 1 March at 7 p.m., and will be attended by the translator Malika Embarek López, winner of the National Prize for the Work of a Translator, who will host the conversation.

South of Tangier is part of the tradition of travel literature and is an invitation to read and also to travel to Morocco. It is an invitation to change ideas through travel and reading. In this work, the author tells us about an initiation trip to Morocco, an event that marked the beginning of a stage in which the different cultures that coexist in Morocco become the centre of his professional life. A leap between shores that meant not only a spatial change, but also a temporal transit: a journey that separates two realities that are close, but distant, different and distant, but also similar.

Far from giving a tourist and stereotyped vision of Morocco, Fernández Parrilla takes us into the nooks and crannies of a country that attracts us and inspires respect at the same time. Through his personal and professional experience, he takes us into the literary and artistic Morocco and gives us clues on how to travel and experience it in a different way.

Malika and Gonzalo have translated from Arabic together Diary of an illegal alien by Moroccan journalist Rachid Nini and Morning Thoughts by Moroccan historian Abdallah Laroui.
