The Three Cultures Foundation, in collaboration with the Cartuja Business Circle, is organising a new CEC MEETING, at which we will have the honour of being joined by Ana Isabel González Santamaría, who will give a lecture on the expansion of BRICS to the Middle East and North Africa, under the title of Keys to understanding the economic impact of Arab presence in the BRICS.
The CEC Encounters programme aims to foster mutual knowledge between PCT organisations, while addressing topics of great interest and current relevance.
In this conference, Ana Isabel González Santamaría, a professor at ESIC University and a specialist in Arab economies and economic relations between Spain and Arab countries, will analyse the regional and international impact of the expansion of the so-called BRICS to the Middle East and North Africa. The arrival of the new year has brought with it the official incorporation of Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates – in addition to Ethiopia – into the BRICS, the bloc of emerging economies that was formed fifteen years ago and which, with these new members, will now double in size. The entry of some of the world's largest energy producers into this club is expected to have a significant effect on its scope and operation, and possibly on global geopolitics.
Ana Isabel González Santamaría She holds a doctorate in Applied Economics. She was in charge of Casa Árabe's business programme from 2008 to June 2013. She has collaborated with the Spanish Ministry of Defence since 2014 as a researcher for the working group on the research project of the Euromagreb Centre for Strategic Research and Studies (CEMRES) within the framework of the 5+5 Defence Initiative. She teaches on master's and postgraduate courses at various universities and institutions (UNIA, ICADE-Mas Consulting, Madrid Chamber of Commerce, Mondragon University, Diplomatic School, etc.). She combines her academic activity with consulting work focused on research into Arab countries and cultural approaches for companies and institutions.
