The British artist Saba Rifat, invited to participate in the framework of the actions of the CARPET project, will create a geometric layout in Calle San Jacinto (next to Plaza del Altozano) on Friday 19 October, inviting all citizens who are in the area to complete this urban carpet of geometries and multiple colours. Previously, on Thursday 18 October, she will hold a meeting with a total of 80 children from the CEIP Vara del Rey school in Seville, where they will be able to learn more about the work of this artist and work together on different proposals based on geometry.
SABA RIFAT (Manchester, England)
Visual artist living and working in Yorkshire, UK. After studying at The Prince's Foundation Royal School of Traditonal Arts in London he explores the geometry present in everyday life and especially in nature, science, urban spaces and Islamic cultural heritage.
In her own words, the visual and sacred language of geometry is at the heart of all her work, leading her to design abstract compositions in contemporary art and murals. Her recently published book 'Geometric Skies' is an invitation for adults and children to enjoy geometry. She currently teaches workshops for a variety of audiences in the UK and abroad.
In 2001 he completed a master's degree in Visual Islamic and Traditional Art at The Princeʼs Traditional School of Arts (PTSA), a foundation set up by Prince Charles in London to facilitate the survival of traditional arts and their accessibility. These studies were a wonderful opportunity to understand the Islamic art of the past and to gain a fundamental understanding in his work of the geometric principles underlying the craft. The geometry of Islamic origin offers her infinite possibilities to visually interpret and express thoughts and emotions as well as the cultural identity to which she feels attached. Saba plays intelligently with the use of form and colour. Her aim is to be able to develop innovative and original contemporary work while remaining linked to tradition and spirituality. One of her greatest passions is to find the divinity hidden in small things.
It will carry out two participatory street actions under the title of urban CARPET using the ground of San Jacinto and Asunción streets on 18 and 19 October from 6.30 p.m. onwards.
Part of his work will be exhibited at the Crisol Art Salon on 20 October 2018 as part of the CARPET open studio tour.
