The Fundación Tres Culturas, in collaboration with the publishing house Cabaret Voltaire, is organising a literary meeting with one of the most outstanding Algerian intellectuals of the moment, Rachid Boudjedra. His wide-ranging literary production reveals, from the outset, his ever-critical stance on the political, social, literary and human situation in Algeria. At this event, the author will discuss his work as a whole with Souad Hadj-Ali, translator into Spanish of the novel 'El caracol obstinado' (Cabaret Voltaire).
During the month of February, the Tres con libros reading club analysed this work, from which batches of books will subsequently be donated to various institutions, such as the Fundación Euroárabe de Altos Estudios (Granada), the Juan Ramón Jiménez Municipal Public Library of Sanlúcar la Mayor (Seville) and the Luis Jiménez de Asúa Social Insertion Centre (CIS) in Seville.
In addition to speaking at this event, Fundación Tres Culturas will bring Rachid Boudjedra to the Granada Book Fairon 18 April.
Rachid Boudjedra (Aïn Beïda, Algeria, 1941)
Writer, poet, storyteller, essayist, teacher, filmmaker and screenwriter. In 1959, he took part in the armed struggle against French colonisation in Algeria and, after being wounded, travelled to the countries of the East and later to Spain, where he was a representative of the National Liberation Front (FLN).
He is considered one of the most important writers of Maghreb literature and a recognised figure in modern world literature, with a body of work translated into more than thirty languages.
The first of his more than thirty novels is 'Le repudiation' (1969), which was banned in his country for 14 years. It was followed by, among others, 'Topographie idéale pour une agression caractérisée' (1975), 'Le désordre des choses' (1991), 'Timimoum' (1994), 'Hôtel Saint-Georges' (2007), 'Los campos de chumberas' (2010), 'Printemps' (2014); and the books of poems 'Para no soñar más' (1965) and 'Cinco fragmentos del desierto' (2001). He always wrote in French until 1982, when he turned to literature in Arabic.
