The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry Delegate in Charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad, and within the framework of the Alqantara 2018 programme, is organising the third edition of the intensive course on Andalusian music, led by Professor Amin Chaachoo, director of the Tetouan-Asmir Centre for Musicological Research and the Conservation of Musical Heritage; director of the Al-Haiek Andalusian Orchestra and director of the Andalusian Orchestra of Malaga.
The training will include an approach to the history of Andalusian music and the basic concepts of this music, as well as its structural components and modes, rhythm and Andalusian modal theory. There will also be a practical part, through the performance of pieces and improvisation.
On this occasion, we will also have the presence of José David Guillén, who will give a lecture on the eminent Tetouanese musician Mustafa Aïcha Rahmani (Tetouan, 1944-2008), a composer who developed conceptual and formal aspects of Moroccan music, especially Andalusian music, in the Western format.
