The Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo and Centro Sefarad-Israel, in collaboration with the publishing house Sexto Piso, are organising a poetic gathering for the presentation of the book The colour of timeby the writer Clarisse Nicoïdski. Her complete poetic oeuvre is brought together for the first time in this bilingual edition. Critics unanimously consider her to be the most important Sephardic-language poet of the 20th century. Her work influenced several Latin American poets, especially Juan Gelman and the Spaniard José Ángel Valente.
To present The colour of time We will be joined by the writer of Sephardic origin and director of culture at Centro Sefarad-Israel, Esther Bendahan, and the poet Carmen Camacho.
We will also have the virtual presence of the translator of the work, Ernesto Kavi, who will talk to us about the process of creation, the Sephardic language and why poetry "is a way of restoring time".
After the presentation of the work, there will be a poetry recital by Carmen Camacho (in Spanish) and Esther Bendahan (in Sephardic), accompanied by the harp of Mar Gabarre, composer and vocalist of the group Musgö and student of Fine Arts.
Esther Bendahan (Tetouan, Morocco, 1964). Her Sephardic family has always maintained its ties with Spain, where she returned as a child. She studied psychology, French philology and literary creation. She has published numerous short stories in various anthologies and the novels Dreaming of Hipania (2002), in collaboration with Ester Benari, Artichoke plucking (Fnac New Talent Award, 2005), Leave it, we'll be back (2006), The face of Mars (Tigre Juan Novel Prize, 2006)), The Secret of the Persian Queen (2009), Penis (2011) y Treatise on soul mates (2012). He writes articles for various media. He currently directs the cultural programming of Centro Sefarad-Israel.
Carmen Camacho (Alcaudete, 1976) has so far published the poetry books Force field (2012), The woman of time (2011), 777 (2007) y Thrown (2007), the notebook of songs Small Print (2014), the book of aphorisms Minimás (2008 and 2009 - 2nd ed.) and the prose collection Domestic flight (2014). Her work has been partially translated into Italian, French, Portuguese, Arabic and Armenian. Interested in the dialogue between the poetic word and the arts and the theatre, she is a member, along with the singer Juan Murube and the dancer Raquel López Lobato The Beautiful Aorta, company that is currently bringing to alternative Spanish theatres and stages the work Grounding, which combines spoken word, quejío and contemporary dance.
