Details

  • Start: 28 April 2015
  • End: 29 April 2015

PortadaOn the occasion of the tribute that Tres Culturas pays to the figure of Vincenzo Consolo, the Foundation presents the book 'Conversation in Seville', edited by the poet and professor at the University of Seville, Miguel Ángel Cuevas, on 28 April at 7.30 pm.

Conversation in Seville' - a work that inevitably reminds us of Elio Vittorini's 'Conversation in Sicily'.– The book is a compilation of interviews and various interventions in different forums in Seville during 2004, the year in which the University of Seville paid tribute to him for his '70 + 1' birthday. The work of just 67 pages is a perfect way to approach the thought and position in the world of one of the most outstanding intellectuals of the Mediterranean.

His publisher and Francisco Lira, of La Carbonería Ediciones, will talk about the work.

Vincenzo Consolo (1933-2012)

He was born in Sant' Agata di Militello (Sicily), off the Aeolian Islands, and was an excellent connoisseur of a Sicily which, as one of his texts says, smells of blood and jasmine. His works include novels with a historical-metaphorical tone such as 'La sonrisa del ignoto marinero' (1976), 'Retablo' (1987), 'De noche, casa por casa' (1992) and 'El Pasmo de Palermo' (1998); almost memorialistic stories such as 'Las piedras de Pantálica' (1988) and 'El olivo y el acebuche' (1994); as well as plays such as 'Lunaria' (1985) and 'Catarsis' (1989).

Miguel Angel Cuevas (Alicante, 1958)

Poet and lecturer in Italian Philology at the University of Seville. Scholar and translator of Luigi Pirandello, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, Vincenzo Consolo, Angelo Scandurra and María Attanasio. He is particularly concerned with the relationship between the visual arts and writing in the work of Vincenzo Consolo, whose first novel, 'La herida de abril' (Traspiés, Granada 2013), and the collection of essays 'A este lado del Faro' (Parténope, Valencia 2008) have been published in Spanish.

Free admission until full capacity is reached.
