The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation is collaborating with Makom Sefarad for the celebration of Hanukkah or The Feast of Luminaries, a date in the Jewish calendar celebrating freedom and peace, which, unlike other celebrations of a strictly religious nature, has its origins in documented historical events..
The holiday is spread over eight days, which in 2020 will be from 10 December, as the first day, to 18 December. To celebrate, the candles of an eight-branched candelabra are lit, at the rate of one candle each day.
The spirit of this festival is therefore to extol freedom as a supreme good, a right for all human beings, whatever their culture or tradition. And et is tradition that these fundamental values be shared with the whole of society, one of the principles on which the philosophy of the Fundación de las Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo and Makom Sefarad is based, a cultural project dedicated to facilitating spaces for dialogue and coexistence through activities and programmes linked to Jewish-Spanish history and heritage.

Monday, 14 December, 17.00 h.
Lighting of the Hanukkah and concert by the group Memories of Sepharad
Representatives of Tres Culturas and Makom Sefarad will speak at the event. At the end of the words, the lighting of the eight-branched candelabra, the chanukiah, will take place.
The event will close with a concert by the group Memories of Sepharad, composed by Daniel Martínez Martín (guitar, bouzouki, arrangements and composition), Alba Bermejo (vocals) and Juan Cabrera (viola).
The repertoire of this performance is made up of themes composed by Daniel Martínez Martín himself, as well as other works compiled from the Sephardic tradition, making a musical journey full of harmonies that range from classical style, to flamenco, Balkan folklore, or Egyptian and Andalusian music.

Lighting of the Hanukkah and concert by Óscar Acedo in collaboration with Beit Ramban.
On this occasion, the Foundation is collaborating with Beit Rambam in an event in which there will be a speech by the members of this organisation, the purpose of which is to celebrate Hanukkah with the lighting of the eighth and last candle of the candelabrum, which is carried out publicly in many countries and cities around the world.
A beautiful tradition that invites people from different groups and cultures to light the candles of freedom.
We will end with a musical performance by Óscar Acedo.
