Morocco in Three Cultures: The Andalusian Zambra. Suhail Ensemble in Concert

Details

  • Date: 12 November 2021
  • Time:
    20:30 - 22:30

Suhail Ensemble is a group formed by notable artists from Morocco and Spain, led by musician and singer Suhail Serghini, a collaborator of great national and international artists, who on this occasion will delight us with his musical project. Flamenco and Andalusian Zambra.

In the music of Suhail Ensemble, Andalusian music and flamenco merge, establishing an enriching dialogue between both cultures. The zambra that arises from the meeting of the two has already been premiered and triumphed in places where the proposal was greatly appreciated for its quality and originality, such as Mexico, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Lebanon, France, and Japan, and most recently at the International Andalusian Music Festival in Algiers.

The musical dialogue is twofold, as to the mix of melodies from different origins is added the temporal one, which links the Andalusian cultural tradition with that of present-day 21st-century flamenco Andalusia, and the incorporation of global rhythms with which it is constantly enriched and renewed. This dialogue is embodied in the mix of genuinely flamenco instruments, such as the guitar, with the a (the Arabic lute) as a melodic instrument, or the evocative timbre of the qanun and in the combination of Andalusian muwashahat melodies with flamenco singing, which enhance the depth and spirituality of both traditions.

Activity carried out in collaboration with the Seville City Council, the Turkish Embassy and the Yunus Emre Institute.
