In September, as part of the Ecos de Sefarad programme of activities, we dedicated the Tuesday Film sessions to the Sephardim, descendants of the Jews expelled from Spain in 1492.
This cycle opens our eyes to the unique history of the Sephardic Jews, to their traditions and above all to their determination to preserve a culture that has its roots in Sepharad, the medieval Spain of our ancestors.

Your mouth in the heavens. Miguel Ángel Nieto. Spain, 2018, 56 min.
Rachel Muyal, born in Tangiers, is a descendant of the Spanish Sephardim expelled from Spain in 1492. At the age of 87, she decided to write a letter to the Catholic Monarchs and take it personally to Granada to deposit it next to their tombs. Rachel's handwritten letter, in which she confesses to those responsible for the expulsion that the Jews do not hold a grudge, serves as an excuse for a delightful historical journey through the 500 years of coexistence enjoyed by the Jews in the lands of the Maghreb (Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria). With the letter as a guiding thread, and supported by more than 40 interviews with Sephardim from the Maghreb from all over the world, Rachel describes a model of life that no longer exists today.
