Words We’re Made of

15/12/17

“Las palabras que somos” [“Words We’re Made of”] is a web-series of micro-documentaries meant to publicise and raise awareness about the Arabic origin of many Andalusian Spanish words.

Among other goals, the “Words We’re Made of” project seeks to highlight how the Andalusian identity has been shaped by the numerous peoples and civilisations that have lived here since ancient times.

The intercultural nature of practices, habits and lifestyles which characterises the Andalusian identity is built on a pluralistic history and manifested, as indicated in the Andalusian Autonomy Statute, “in a tangible and intangible cultural heritage, dynamic and changing, common and erudite, unique among the world’s cultures”.

To understand who we are it is fundamental to know our origins and our history.

The words we use every day are laden with content. The aim of this project is to delve into the meaning of words and find out where they come from, how they have evolved and how we use them nowadays. Language forms part of our identity; it differentiates us, unites us and identifies us.

This series of micro-documentaries will be posted on the website of the Three Cultures Foundation.

Details: “Words We’re Made of” will be presented at the headquarters of the Three Cultures Foundation on Monday the 18th of December at 11 a.m.
