Stephen Smith and the challenge of African migration, at Tres Culturas
The Fundación Tres Culturas (Three Cultures Foundation), together with the Institut français of Seville, hosts the presentation of the book La huida hacia Europa (Scramble for Europe) written by journalist, writer and academic Stephen Smith and published in Spain by Editorial Arpa publishers. The author will discuss the topics covered in the book with journalist Nicolás Castellano.
Stephen Smith, who worked as an analyst for the United Nations and the International Crisis Group, makes in this documented essay a journey through the African challenges and aims to explain the profound nature of migration. Before an aged and depopulated Europe, and a continent full of restless youths, the author predicts a massive migration, the magnitude and conditions of which will be one of the great challenges of the 21st century, questioning the idea of the borderless welfare state and also that of Europe as an impregnable fortress.
